Habitat Workday

Our team has several mission opportunities planned to prepare us to work effectively as a team. On February 9th we participated in the Trinity Habitat for Humanity workday. Here are a few shots from the day.

We spent most of the day on the roof. Here Phillip and Reginald Waller (the homeowner) work on putting down shingles.

Phillip turned out to be our roofing expert. After showing Heather what needed to be done, she was able to move on to the other side of the house and work on her own.

Denise was definitely our most dedicated roofer. The entire team had to beg and plead just to get her off the roof for a group picture at the end of the day.

This is a shot of the whole house with all the volunteers working.

How can I help?

There are many ways that the team will need the help of our congregation:

Monetary Donations

Our team's main project will be to build a home for a family that is probably currently living under a plastic tarp propped up by sticks. In some cases, we are talking families of more than 10 people cooking together under a plastic sheet! We will need to raise the funds to purchase the supplies to build the house.

The poverty in Nicaragua is so severe that most families have to choose which one of their children will benefit the most from an education as they can not afford to send all of their children to school. A scholarship for a child for one year is only $30.00. A lot of us spend that much and more on frivolous purchases, think how rewarding it would be to know that you sent a child to school for a full year instead. Please consider sponsoring a Nicaraguan child.

All monetary donations will be to Trinity UMC and are therefore tax deductable.

Garage Sale Items

We will be having a garage sale in late April or early May to raise funds for our trip. We will be collecting gently used items to sell(no clothing please). Please be thinking of what you have that you could donate. Donations can be brought to the stage in the Fellowship Hall, receipts can be made if needed. If you will need help loading or unloading large items, please contact someone on the mission team to arrange for assistance.

Containers with Plastic Lids

We are collecting containers that have a plastic lid, we can't tell you why yet. Examples are butter containers, peanut cans, pringles cans, peanut butter jars, anything with a PLASTIC lid. There are boxes in the Sunset Funset room where these can be donated.

PRAYER

The most important way that everyone can help our team is to keep us in your prayers as we prepare for the trip as well as when we are on the trip. Only a few members of the team have been on a mission trip before so will be needing you to pray for God to continue leading us.
